What an IPv4 address really costs
A public IPv4 address is not optional for most people, but it is not always in the advertised price. We track 32 providers, and 9 of them bill it separately, from £0.42 to £3.09 a month. On the cheapest plans that is not a rounding error: it can be most of the bill.
The finding
Comparing headline VPS prices without the address is comparing different things. The clearest case in today's data is Scaleway Stardust 1 vCPU / 1 GB: the server is advertised at £1.42 a month, the address adds £3.09, and the real bill is £4.51. The address is 69% of what you pay.
That is why every price on this site already includes the address where it is charged. It is also why a plan that looks half the price of another sometimes is not.
Who charges, and how much
GBP a month including UK VAT, on the same basis as the rest of the site. "Varies" means the charge differs by plan or region, and the range is shown.

How this was measured
Taken from ServerWorth's own daily price collection on October 2026, covering every plan we track. For each plan we compare the provider's monthly price against the mandatory IPv4 charge at the same location, convert both at the European Central Bank reference rate and add UK VAT. The "worst case" column is the plan on which the address is the largest share of the total, which is usually the provider's smallest instance.
Charges that are optional, such as extra addresses beyond the first, are not counted. Nor are providers who offer an IPv6-only plan at a lower price while still including IPv4 on the rest. Full methodology.
